Australia’s first convertible apartment completed in Melbourne
2015-07-06Sliding walls, concealed storage and a fold-down bed transform the living and dining area into a separate bedroom and smaller living space.
Seven of these apartments are expected to be completed by spring in the new Sanctuary on the River development in Abbotsford, starting from $415,000.

Rothelowman principal Chris Hayton said the fold-out bed and other features added several metres to the living space.
“When the bed is hidden away and the wall moved across into the bedroom area, the result is a 70 per cent increase in living area,” he said.
“The most challenging thing about designing this apartment was delivering everything it had to do in a way that was visually appealing and in a sensible budget.

Mr Hayton said the apartment market was slowly shifting as a growing number of owner occupiers were opting for apartment living.
The 42sq m apartments are finished with Scandanvian-inspired style including concealed appliances, 7m balconies and marble splashbacks.

Hamton joint managing director Paul Hameister said they chose Sanctuary to debut the convertible spaces because young professionals and owner-occupiers were attracted to the Abbotsford location.
