Fewer properties on offer didn’t dampen enthusiasm at weekend auctions
2015-07-06Sydney recorded a strong 84.5 per cent clearance rate up on last weeks 82 per cent. The Sutherland region was one of the strongest performers within that market last week with 92.8 per cent of properties taken to auction selling under the hammer.
A home at 5 Lawson St, Ermington sold for $206,000 above its reserve price when it went under the hammer.
In all five potential buyers registered to bid on the five-bedroom home which sold for $1.105 million.The home was bought by an investor. Bidding started at $800,000 and moved past the reserve of $899,000 in four bids.
Melbourne’s clearance rate was 76.7 per cent, down slightly on last week when it was 78.5 per cent.
Within the city’s outer east region 93.7 per cent of properties taken to auction sold under the hammer.
Brisbane’s clearance rate lifted substantially last week even though fewer properties were offered under the hammer.
The preliminary auction clearance rate was 68.9 per cent compared to 46.2 per cent the previous week.
Big weekend sales included a waterfront property which sold for $4.05 million, setting a new record for Hawthorne.
The three-storey home at 30 Gordon St, overlooks the Brisbane River towards Teneriffe.
Bidding started at $3 million and rose to $3.9 million before negotiations took over and it sold for $4.05 million.
On the Gold Coast there were 30 properties taken to auction last week with exactly half of those selling under the hammer.
Adelaide was the only capital city with more properties going to auction last week, compared with the previous week and it returned a solid clearance rate of 75.4 per cent.
Perth’s preliminary auction clearance rate dropped to 30 per cent, across 20 auctions.
The previous week it was 68 per cent.
